>> Das Originalurteil von Christian Borgatello finden Sie hier.
Christian Borgatello of the HC Meran/o Pircher was suspended for 2+1 games due to an incident deemed as Slashing (IIHF Rule 61) in Thursday´s game at S.G. Cortina Hafro.
Christian Borgatello (#50) of HC Meran/o Pircher, time 59:28, made contact with an opponent deemed as Slashing – IIHF Rule 61. Based on the video evidence, it is determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline – Category 2
Thursday night, March 14th in Cortina, Meran D’Man #50 Christian Borgatello was assessed a 2-minute Minor penalty for slashing Cortina center man #17 Timothy Doherty.
As the video shows, after an end-zone face-off Cortina keeps the puck in the end-zone and builds up their power-play. Doherty, located in the corner at the height of the goal line, receives the puck from the blue line. Right after he passes the puck behind the goal to the other side Borgatello makes forceful contact with his stick on Doherty.
This is slashing.
It is important to note, it is the type and location of the slash that raises it to supplementary discipline. Borgatello is approaching Doherty with two hands on his stick, there is a full wind up, bringing the stick back and the hands together to increase the force of the blow. The contact is directly to the arm of the opposing player. This type of slash is not what is considered acceptable. Big wind ups and located directly at the arm of an opponent creates a high risk of an arm injury.
The Alps Hockey League Department of Player Safety has suspended Christian Borgatello for 2 games for the Slashing infraction and an additional 1 game as a repeat offender.
To summarize:
This is slashing
Forceful
Repeat offender
