Tuesday evening in Klagenfurt, Vienna D’Man #91 Charles Dodero, delivered a high, forceful hit on Klagenfurt D’Man #24 Steven Strong, making his head the main point of contact, on a hit where such head contact was deemed avoidable. Dodero was assessed a 5 min.+ game misconduct penalty for an illegal check to the head or neck.
The incident was sent to the ICEHL PSC and determined supplementary discipline is required under Category 2 – ‘Reckless’.
As the video shows, Strong receives a cross ice neutral zone pass. As Strong skates at high speed into the KAC attacking zone, Dodero moves cross ice to deliver a forceful shoulder check to Strong that makes his head the main point of contact, knocking him to the ice.
This is an illegal check to the head.
It is important to note, that the head is the main point of contact on this hit. While we acknowledge Dodero does make subsequent contact with Strong’s body, after going through the head, it is clearly Strong’s head that absorbs the brunt of the force of this blow. Dodero’s left shoulder makes direct and forceful contact through Strong’s head, snapping his head from right to left with force. It is also important to note that the head contact on this hit is avoidable. Dodero has the ice and space to make a check that hits through Strong’s shoulder and body, avoiding the head. His chosen path of approach, however, forces Dodero across and in front of the body that made the head the main point of contact.
Effective immediately Charles Dodero (#91) of spusu Vienna Capitals is suspended for 4 games and fined 1,000.00 Euros.
